DSL Costs There are several companies offering DSL services, with some being much more cost efficient than others. You can easily search for companies offering DSL services in your area by either searching the Internet or through your local phone book. You need to call your local telephone provider first to see if they offer DSL service in your particular area before doing anything else. This is because if they do not offer DSL then the appropriate lines are not up yet for other companies to offer DSL. As far as the cost of DSL goes you may have to just pay the ISP for Internet access only or pay for both the Internet and the DSL line itself, which your local telephone company provides. For the latter situation sometimes you still only have to pay an ISP because they have what is called a “line-sharing” agreement with the local telephone company. At this point you may be thinking that staying with your cheap dial-up may be a better choice than DSL. What you need to remember is that with DSL you may pay a little more but you can be on the Internet and be talking on the phone at the same time. Plus your Internet speed can be up to 25 times faster than what you have with dial-up. So in the end most people tend to agree that paying a little more for DSL is well worth it in the end. |
