DSL Service Anyone who has ever used the internet can appreciate just about any alternative to dial-up services. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a wonderful form of technology that has drastically increased the digital capacity of regular telephone lines into the home and/or office. One of the great things at DSL is that in most cases additional telephone lines are not required because existing telephone lines are being used. Because of this particular feature DSL has the “always-on” Internet access and you do not have to worry about your telephone line being tied up. With DSL you have no more dropped connections, no more busy signals, and maybe best of all no more waiting for someone to get off the phone or having to get off the Internet so someone can make a phone call. With DSL you can now use services requiring high bandwidths like video conferencing, on-line games, application programs, and streaming audio/video. The distance between customer and central office determines the speed of DSL. There are two types of DSL. First is Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) which is primarily used for internet access. The second type of DSL is Symmetric DSL which is used for connections that require high speed in both directions because an equal amount of bandwidth is available in both directions. DSL has been designated as the always-on operation. |
